Hello, Fellow Enthusiasts of Bass Playing!

It is an exciting time for Arizona's community of bass enthusiasts. Arizona Bass Players organization is incorporated as a non-profit group to support the education and performance of bass players throughout the state. Co-operation between the three major universities is now at an all time high, with Catalin Rotaru, Joel DiBartolo and myself leading the charge. We hope to provide opportunities to our organization's members that were before unavailable, like: discounts at concerts of performance organizations throughout the state, including the opera, the symphonies, jazz groups and societies, ballet, and hopefully pop and rock concerts; discounts at major music and instrument businesses.

We've just brought on-line the ABP Forum, a great place to connect! We eventually will provide scholarships for a student to study music (likely awarded through some sort of competition); and during the fantastic, annual Festival, we will have an annual performance competition with prizes ranging from a bass and/or bow to cash. The Festival will be rotating between the three universities, and we encourage volunteers to give us ideas and help out with implementing those ideas. We would like to get the community colleges, high schools and businesses involved as well. Business help is especially needed. So you can see, the plans are enormous, adventurous, setting precedent, and exciting for all enthusiasts of the bass (whether you are a player or not, you can join ABP).

It doesn't matter if you are an amateur, a student, a professional, a teacher, a non-bass player, a musician of another sort, a singer, a guitaron player, a contrabass clarinet player, or a bass fisherman (oops!); if you are enthusiastic about the bass in all its wonderful forms, I encourage you to join our organization. The cost is minimal and the rewards are great. As you can imagine, the operating costs of putting this all together is substantial. But it is not unmanageable and if you are keen on helping out, there are ways where your service is worth more than money. So JOIN, and Bass Wishes!   ~PN
